Mercedes-Benz present\u00f3 en 1975 la versi\u00f3n tope de gama de la serie W116 (es decir, la primera generaci\u00f3n que recibi\u00f3 la denominaci\u00f3n de Clase S, lanzada en 1972): el <strong>450 SEL 6.9<\/strong>. S\u00f3lo se vendi\u00f3 con la carrocer\u00eda larga del W116, que med\u00eda 5,06 metros.<\/p>\n<p>Lo m\u00e1s llamativo de este coche eran quiz\u00e1 sus prestaciones antes que su aspecto, m\u00e1s bien discreto. Estaba derivado del que usaba Mercedes-Benz en el W100, aunque con variaciones en el di\u00e1metro de los cilindros para incrementar la cilindrada. No se trataba en absoluto de un motor de giro r\u00e1pido, ya que la potencia m\u00e1xima la consegu\u00eda a tan solo 4.250 revoluciones por minuto. La transmisi\u00f3n consist\u00eda en una caja de cambios de tres relaciones similar a la de otros Clase S W116, pero adaptada para gestionar la mayor potencia y par.<\/p>\n<p>Mercedes-Benz destacaba que el 450 SEL 6.9 ten\u00eda <strong>varias ventajas t\u00e9cnicas que reduc\u00edan el coste de mantenimiento<\/strong>. Por ejemplo, dispon\u00eda de un sistema hidr\u00e1ulico que eliminaba la necesidad de hacer el reglaje de v\u00e1lvulas de la forma tradicional. Por otro lado, las juntas de culata eran \u00abde nuevo desarrollo\u00bb y no hab\u00eda que reapretar las dos culatas a medida que el motor acumulaba horas de trabajo. <strong>El sistema de engrase era por <a href=\"https:\/\/www.km77.com\/glosario\/cartseco\">c\u00e1rter seco<\/a><\/strong>. Ello permit\u00eda situar el motor en una posici\u00f3n m\u00e1s baja y conseguir que el frontal del coche fuera menos prominente y m\u00e1s aerodin\u00e1mico. El intervalo de cambios de aceite llegaba a 15.000 kil\u00f3metros, mucho para la \u00e9poca.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Suspensi\u00f3n hidroneum\u00e1tica<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>El chasis era de tipo monocasco, los frenos de disco y la direcci\u00f3n de recirculaci\u00f3n de bolas. Se diferenciaba poco de las versiones m\u00e1s sencillas: bajo la parrilla hab\u00eda un deflector que conduc\u00eda el aire hacia el motor; los neum\u00e1ticos eran unos 215\/70 R14 (las llantas Fuchs que se ven en las im\u00e1genes eran opcionales) y las salidas de escape eran de mayor di\u00e1metro. Y, por \u00faltimo, llevaba un emblema en la tapa del maletero que identificaba esta versi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Cabe destacar que fue el<strong> primer coche de producci\u00f3n en disponer de ABS electr\u00f3nico<\/strong>, aunque no inicialmente<strong>:\u00a0 Mercedes-Benz lo incorpor\u00f3 a este modelo en 1978<\/strong> gracias a la colaboraci\u00f3n con Bosch.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Lo que dec\u00edan de \u00e9l<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>En la web <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pieldetoro.net\/web\/pruebas\/ver.php?ID=711\">pieldetoro.net<\/a> se puede encontrar la informaci\u00f3n que public\u00f3 la revista Autopista de la presentaci\u00f3n a los medios del 450 SEL 6.9.
