Al hidr\u00f3geno se le obliga a separarse en prot\u00f3n y electr\u00f3n antes de llegar al compartimento donde est\u00e1 el ox\u00edgeno y reaccionar con \u00e9l. El prot\u00f3n del hidr\u00f3geno atraviesa una membrana que s\u00f3lo deja pasar protones y el electr\u00f3n recorre un circuito que sirve de suministro de corriente al motor el\u00e9ctrico. Una vez superados los obst\u00e1culos, prot\u00f3n y electr\u00f3n se encuentran y se combinan con el ox\u00edgeno para formar agua.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nEl agua generada puede ser un problema si el Mirai queda estacionado en un lugar donde la temperatura sea inferior a 0 \u00baC, porque puede llegar a congelarse y bloquear o romper los conductos del sistema. Por ese motivo, el Mirai tiene un bot\u00f3n a la izquierda del volante que, al pulsarlo, vac\u00eda de agua las tuber\u00edas. Lo que sucede se puede ver en el v\u00eddeo que hay bajo estas l\u00edneas.<br \/>\n<iframe width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MTDWnjt7hO8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nUna de las ventajas de los veh\u00edculos a hidr\u00f3geno con respecto a los el\u00e9ctricos de bater\u00edas, es que el procedimiento para restaurar la autonom\u00eda toma mucho menos tiempo. Para llenar el dep\u00f3sito de hidr\u00f3geno del Mirai hacen falta unos 5 minutos, nada que ver con las varias horas que debe estar enchufada la bater\u00eda de, por ejemplo, un BMW i3. El procedimiento para repostar hidr\u00f3geno es sencillo y pr\u00e1cticamente id\u00e9ntico a la manera en que se llena el dep\u00f3sito de un coche con motor de combusti\u00f3n. Veamos. Su motor da 154 CV, lo que no est\u00e1 nada mal, pero ha de mover 1850 kilogramos, que son muchos. Seg\u00fan Toyota puede acelerar de 0 a 100 km\/h en 9,6 segundos y la velocidad m\u00e1xima es 178 km\/h (un 48 % m\u00e1s de lo permitido en Espa\u00f1a). La sensaci\u00f3n al volante es la de un coche que acelera con fuerza sobrada tanto en ciudad como fuera de ella, al menos con dos personas a bordo y poca carga.
