Esta nueva versi\u00f3n Diesel, denominada \u00ab40 cdi\u00bb, puede comprarse desde 11.500 euros en versi\u00f3n \u00abcoup\u00e9\u00bb y desde 14.100 euros en versi\u00f3n \u00abcabrio\u00bb.<br \/>\nEl motor Diesel de 54 CV del fortwo 40 cdi es una evoluci\u00f3n del que tiene la versi\u00f3n 33 cdi. Respecto a esta versi\u00f3n, mejora las prestaciones (acelera de 0 a 100 km\/h en 16,8 s, 3 s menos). El consumo medio es muy bajo: 3,4 l\/100 km.<br \/>\nDe tal forma, la gama smart fortwo queda compuesta por cuatro versiones de gasolina (\u00ab45\u00bb de 61 CV, \u00ab52\u00bb de 71 CV, \u00ab62\u00bb de 84 CV y \u00abBrabus\u00bb de 98 CV) y dos Diesel (\u00ab33 cdi\u00bb de 45 CV y \u00ab40 cdi\u00bb de 54 CV). Las versiones con el motor Diesel de 45 CV s\u00f3lo estar\u00e1n a la venta hasta que se agote el stock.<br \/>\nDesde octubre de 2008, todas las versiones \u00ab45\u00bb y \u00ab52\u00bb del smart fortwo tienen un dispositivo de parada y arranque autom\u00e1ticos del motor, para as\u00ed ahorrar hasta un 20 por ciento de combustible. Este sistema no est\u00e1 disponible en el resto de versiones.<br \/>\nSeg\u00fan smart, en 2010 pondr\u00e1 a la venta una versi\u00f3n el\u00e9ctrica, con bater\u00edas de ion-litio.<br \/>\nsmart tambi\u00e9n ha realizado alg\u00fan cambio en el equipamiento del fortwo.
