Sin entrar en explicaciones t\u00e9cnicas detalladas, el funcionamiento es el siguiente: cuando por las bobinas circula corriente se crea un campo magn\u00e9tico. Ese campo reacciona con el de los im\u00e1nes del rotor. Cuando es del mismo signo, se repulsan, y cuando son del contrario, se atraen (exactamente lo mismo que ocurre si jugamos con dos im\u00e1nes). Cambiando peri\u00f3dicamente el sentido de la corriente que circula por el bobinado, se invirte el campo magn\u00e9tico y se consigue la alternancia para lograr el movimiento continuo del rotor. El motor de la foto mide aproximadamente de poco m\u00e1s de un palmo de largo.<br \/>\nLa corriente que circula por los bobinados del motor proviene de la bater\u00eda. La del smart es de iones de litio y tiene 17,6 kWh de capacidad.
